Dihydrogen Monoxide, considered by many the most deadly chemical on earth, has been responsible for untold millions of deaths since its formation the planet. Not only are humans susceptible, animals and many plants, making it the "universal killer".
Found worldwide, this compound has done more damage than all the earthquakes, tornadoes, and volcanoes put together, yet some nations insist on hoarding it as if it were gold. Of course sometimes they too learn of its deadly powers, when misuse of it results in mass destruction.
Scientists have been studying it for decades; some in attempts to duplicate
this powerful weapon, while others simply awe in its presence, which is
sometimes found in huge concentrations.
Many a scientist has fallen prey to it, not realizing what they were
dealing with; others, more aware, have lived to study it, supplying us
with much information about it and how it affects us.
Even early explorers, unfamiliar with the world of science, bent on finding new places to live, often wrote of discovering large concentrations of dihydrogen monoxide, though they used a simpler term to describe it- often "death".
For thousands of years many ancient civilizations treated it as their God, often building temples and holding sacrifices in the hopes it would not harm them. Little did they know, this "God" often had no mercy, and wreaked havoc among them, sometimes until their whole tribe would perish.
Today however, with the wonders of modern science making great strides,
we understand much more about dihydrogen monoxide- its origin, how it reacts
with other chemicals, and most importantly, how to protect ourselves and
and our environment against it.
This has been especially important since many of our country's enemies
are constantly trying to develop new weapons, and dihydrogen monoxide is
sometimes a key to their design.
President-elect George Bush, hearing about a discussion concerning the situation, jumped to his feet and vowed to rid the planet of this deadly chemical compound. Within minutes a public announcement was arranged to be held on the White House lawn.
"We need to ensure that humanity will remain safe from all threats,
especially those of global proportion." said Bush.
"Our preceding leaders have sidestepped this issue far too long, but
I aim to do something about it, I promise you."
As Mr. Bush spoke in front of the large gathering, he ceremoniously
signed a doctrine that called for the destruction of any and all known
concentrations of dihydrogen monoxide.
A special group of scientists would monitor the destruction, and UN
officials would be called to witness it, proof of the end of a threat to
world peace.
"My advisers tell me this stuff has been the cause of death of millions,
as well as worldwide destruction, yet many claim a need for it; I disagree.
There will be none of this deadly threat left when I'm done dealing
with the situation, and Americans shall rejoice in peace and liberty".
Upon hearing his announcement, several concerned advisors quietly tried to convince Mr. Bush that it's important we don't destroy the chemical, but contain it safely, and simply treat it with respect; His immediate response was: "Listen, if there's something so powerful that it's killed millions upon millions, from fine folks here in America to those in the deserts of Arabia, I aim to rid the planet of it. No ifs, ands, or butts."
"But sir--" a young voice came from the crowd.
Quickly the president-elect, seeing a chance to show his resolve
for change, seized the opportunity to be seeen chatting with an "average
American kid", and called him up to the podium.
"Hi, son, what's your name?"
"Billy Sanderson, Sir" the child replied.
"So, Billy, I bet you can't wait for me to rid the planet of that terrible
threat, so you and your friends and family can live on to grow up in this
country with no fear of it, right?"
"Well, actually, Sir, I just wanted to tell you that dihydrogen monoxide
is the chemical name for water."
